The specialists of ECOPOWER LLC, jointly with the specialists of TEC Consulting and the German boiler manufacturer Standardkessel Baumgarte, continue commissioning works of the main and auxiliary equipment of a waste-to-energy combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Kaunas (Lithuania).

In January 2020, blow-out of the main steam line was carried out.

Small foreign bodies (products of corrosion, scale, deposits, contamination) remained after installation damage turbine and its blades. In order to avoid such damage, the steam systems should be carefully cleaned before plant start-up. Boiler plant and associated pipes are blown out with the steam.

In order to lead off steam during blowing out, a temporary line was constructed and installed at the turbine line.

The blow-out line is to be made from clean pipe sections and shall have a nominal width of at least conforming to the nominal width of main-steam line to turbine which has to be blown out. A motor-driven gate valve has been installed at a suitable location in the provisional blow-out line. An appropriate silencer has been installed at the outlet of the blow-out line as well.

A positive blow-out effect can be achieved only when the velocity of the blowing media is higher than in full load operation.

The blowing-out result has been checked with the help of a control device consisting of a target-plate with holder.

Foreign bodies entrained in the blowing-out steam leave impacts on the target plate. The number, size and edge formation of these impacts is important in terms of evaluating the result.

Blowing-out is carried out until the quality criterion for the target plate specified in the instructions of the boiler and turbine manufacturers, as well as in the relevant standards, has been achieved.
